Class Pictures were taken under the cherry blossoms at my school:
I went to the castle in Wakamatsu....
in my awesome new shirt:
to have a small BBQ under the cherry blossoms:
Even more impressive at night, the spot staked out for us ran directly along/above the hanami parade. A giant shine/float was carried by about 50 people while the cherry blossoms shook, raining cherry blossoms down on everyone. Awesome!
The following week, I went on bike rides around town and found a bunch of my kids. We played in the cherry blossoms. One of my favorite memories so far!
This little guy followed me around on his bike, whispering to his friend "JanineSensei!!!" and finally I stopped and challenged him to a bike race! I let them win and they couldn't have been happier.
1...2...3...
JUMP!
[yes, the big boy in the background IS pushing one of them..... buttface!]
Rode all along the Sakura Walkway... a biking/walking trail that runs thru the whole city and is lined with cherry trees.
This is Kitakata Plaza, where I take Japanese classes, every Wednesday.
[and afterwards go to taiko]
cool shirt??:
Here is a short video running down the Sakura walkway... you can see in the field adjacent that the green is returning and the rice fields are beginning to bloom!
And finally, meet Dan Tedesco:
Get used to that face, because next week I will be hitchhiking with my friend Dan (New Yorker) across Kyushu. Pictures to come when I return, 5/6.
Kyushu: http://www.mapsofworld.com/thematic-maps/earthquake/japan-earthquake.gif
Kyushu is another island of Japan, just South of Honshu (the big main island that I live on...)
Please disregard the earthquake part of it.... just giving you an idea of where I will be going on Friday (5/1)
Hope everyone is well and enjoying Spring back home!
Love and Miss you!!!
